About MGM Resorts

One of the top names in the hospitality and entertainment industry is MGM Resorts.  With several sites in the United States, they also have interests in Macau through China Holdings Limited.

Starting in 1987 as a gambling casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, MGM Grand, Inc. changed its name to MGM Mirage in 2000 after the acquisition of Mirage Resorts.  Soon the lodging, food and retail segment began to overtake its gaming division and the company expanded to the real estate market.

In 1969 Kirk Kerkorian purchased a controlling interest in the Metro Goldwyn Mayer film studio.  Faced with significant corporate debt, he sold his interest to Hilton Hotels.  As the Las Vegas Hilton succeeded, Kerkorian opened the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in 1973.  In 1986 MGM Resorts International and subsequently renamed MGM Grand, Inc.  It now trades on the New York Stock Exchange as MGM.
